Netherlands – ABU reveals number of agency workers growing

13 December 2016

The Dutch Staffing Association, ABU, published its annual Agency Work Monitor (Uitzendmonitor), which provides insight into the key figures and trends inside the Dutch staffing market.

According to the report, in 2015 there were 770,000 temporary agency workers, compared to 660,000 in 2013, according to the ABU.

On average, temporary agency workers are on assignments of nearly 30 hours a week, while half of them are working on a full-time basis. More than 60% carry on working with the client after the end of the temporary assignment, while an average of 21% of temporary agency workers claim unemployment benefits at the end of an assignment. Finally, the report says 70% of workers who were unemployed before the assignment are still working with the staffing agency three years after the initial assignment. This and more insights can be found in the white paper.

The Broadcast Monitor provides insight into the composition of the temporary agency workers population and the developments in the Dutch staffing market. The report, which is commissioned by the ABU to KBA Nijmegen, uses data from the Central Bureau of Statistics as well as figures from the Dutch job centre UWV.

The full report can be accessed on the ABU’s website (Dutch language).
