Netherlands – ABU reports slower staffing growth

The total amount of hours worked by temporary workers in the Netherlands grew by 1% in the sixth period (weeks 21-24) of 2018, compared to the same period last year, according to the Dutch Federation of Private Employment Agencies (ABU).

ABU divides the year into four-week periods, with the sixth period the most recently ended. This period had one more workable day as the same period last year, a correction was applied.

Turnover among temporary workers grew by 4% in comparison to the same period last year.

Meanwhile, temporary workers in the administrative sector saw their hours decrease by 2% compared to the same period last year while turnover remained the same.

Hours worked by temporary workers in the industrial sector saw an increase of 2% and turnover increased 7% compared to last year. Furthermore, the amount of worked hours in the technical sector increased by 3% while turnover grew by 6% compared to the same period last year. 

ABU also published half-year figures. On average, the total amount of hours increased 5% in the first six months of 2018, total turnover showed an increase of 8%.

The first half year of 2018 had one workable day less than the same period in 2017, for this fact a correction was applied.

Hours worked in the administrative sector decreased by 1% comparison to first half year of 2017 and turnover increased 1%. In the industrial sector, hours increased by 9% and turnover increased 14% in comparison to first half year of 2017. In the technical sector, ABU reported an increase of 6% in hours worked and an increase of 10% in turnover compared to first half year of 2017.
