Netherlands – 1,000 jobs to expire at Nedcar, including 200 temporary jobs (De Limburger)

08 October 2018

Approximately 1,000 jobs at car manufacturer VDL Nedcar are set to get the axe, including 200 temporary jobs, reports De Limburger. BMW, which is Nedcar’s only client, plans to build fewer cars next year which means that less staff will be needed. The job losses involve 500 employees who were hired to absorb the production peak this year and whose contract would expire at the end of this year. In addition, 200 temporary employees will be gone by 1 January and 300 employees will leave via natural turnover, however Nedcar did not confirm the figures. Employee insurance agency UWV told Nederlandse Omroep Stichting (Dutch Broadcasting Foundation) that there will still be many employment opportunities for the employees who will lose their jobs at Nedcar.  "The labour market in Limburg is currently tight, especially in technology and logistics, there is a lot of shortage", UWV stated.
