Nearly 90% of university graduates are working 5 years after completing degree: Randstad Spain

21 June 2023

Five years after graduating, close to 90% of university graduates across Spain are working, however, there are large differences depending on the academic degree, according to research from Randstad Spain.

The study found that 96.3% of graduates in computer science studies have a job five years after graduation, followed by the areas of health and social services (92.1%) and engineering, industry and construction (92.1%). On the contrary, 77.1% of the arts and humanities graduates work after this period, below those with higher education studies (82.2%) and sciences (83.6%).

Valentín Bote, director of Randstad Research pointed out that “as the level of training increases, the level of unemployment decreases, both among young people and in the general population.”

Meanwhile half of the graduates (51%) had their first job less than three months after finishing their studies, however the figures vary according to the degrees.

Randstad also noted that more than half of graduates in their first job (55.9%) earned less than €1,000 per month, but the differences between degrees are significant. Graduates with the highest salaries in their first job are the graduates in Nautical and Maritime Transport (with an average of €1,645), medicine (€1,609) and nursing (€1,409)..
