Majority of workers in Spain will need to update their knowledge and skills within three years: Randstad

02 January 2024

Six out of ten workers in Spain will need training in the next three years to update their knowledge and skills for their job performance, according to a report prepared by Randstad Research in Spain.

The disruptive trends that society is going through technologically, demographically, environmentally and culturally will drive changes in employment that will require updating employees' skills in the short and medium term, the report states. Having professionals with the appropriate knowledge and skills is essential to achieve competitive companies that adapt to the new transformative reality of the productive and social model, it added.

It comes as nearly half (44%) of workers who will need training until 2027 will not be able to access the training.

Meanwhile, 41.8% of Spanish companies that have considered using AI technology have given up due to a lack of knowledge on this subject.

According to Randstad, within the Spanish labour market, it is expected that two out of every three (67%) of the jobs that will be created between 2023 and 2035 will require a high educational level, compared to only 4% for a low educational level.

The EU goal is that by 2030 at least 60% of adults receive training every year. The EU will allocate €64.8 billion to training through the European Recovery and Resilience Mechanism and the European Social Fund, as it considers it key to the productivity and competitiveness of employees.
