Ireland – Number of professional job vacancies down 10%

The number of professional job vacancies in Ireland for March fell by 10% when compared to the same time last year, according to the latest Morgan McKinley Irish Employment Monitor.

Morgan McKinley states that the reduction in professional job vacancies is due to seasonal factors. Meanwhile, However, data from the monitor showed an overall 22% increase in the number of professionals actively seeking new job opportunities in March 2017, compared to the same time a year ago.

On a month-to-month basis, the number of professional job vacancies available increased in March while the number of professionals actively seeking new job opportunities fell by 8%, when compared to February.

"The professional jobs market remains buoyant,” Karen O’Flaherty, Chief Operations Officer at Morgan McKinley Ireland, said. “As the economy returns to high levels of employment, overall confidence has stabilised to a level where there is an increased willingness among professionals to consider onward career development opportunities, and there is greater mobility apparent in the jobs market as a result."

The monitor shows that digital skills remain in high demand, particularly cyber security specialists. Other skills in demand include Audit, Fund Accounting, Financial Planning & Analysis and Insurance (particularly Compliance).
