Ireland – Job searches from the US nearly double after election results

21 November 2016

Donald Trump’s election victory has triggered a surge in Americans looking for jobs in Ireland with the number nearly tripling in the week after the election, reports the Independent Ireland with data from job site Indeed.

"Much had been made in the media during the election campaign of the potential for such an outflow of labour in the event of a Trump victory, but it remains to be seen whether these job searches will translate into a movement of workers,” Indeed EMEA economist Mariano Mamertino, said.

“Our data shows that a highly charged and competitive election campaign, followed by a widely unexpected result led to an immediate and sharp spike in overseas job searches by Americans. Much had been made in the media during the election campaign of the potential for such an outflow of labour in the event of a Trump victory," Mamertino said.

Canada and New Zealand were also amongst the top three countries attracting interest from US jobseekers.

Indeed’s data on US jobseekers looking for work outside of the US is similar to when the number of British jobseekers looking for work in Ireland increased following the results of the EU Referendum.
