How London’s labour market impacts employee hybrid working preferences

09 November 2023

When it comes to hybrid working, location plays a role for UK workers preferences, with London’s competitive labour market meaning more employees have options for hybrid working than in other regions, according to an audio interview with Hays UK and Ireland.

The interview is based on a recent report by Hays UK and Ireland which showed those living in the Northwest of England would be the most likely to accept a job in the future if it didn’t offer hybrid working (66%) versus 44% of those who work in London. Overall, nearly a third (31%) of workers say the wider introduction of hybrid and remote work has influenced where they live.

SIA interviewed Gaelle Blake, Hays UK & Ireland director of permanent appointments and UK & Ireland construction and property.

Blake also points to London’s high cost and potentially longer commutes compared to other regions, as potential impacts on employee hybrid working preferences.

The interview is part 2 of SIA’s interview with Blake. Part 1 can be found here.
