Germany – Labour market expected to show improvement in 2017 due to an increase in employment

28 April 2017

Germany’s labour market is expected to continue to develop positively in the coming months according to the latest monthly labour market barometer from the Institute for Labour Market and Professional Research (IAB).

The barometer did not change in April from the previous month’s high of 104.4 points.

Enzo Weber, director of the Institute’s Research Centre, commented, "The employment agencies continue to see the labour market on the up.” Weber cited the increase in employment.

Due to the favourable ratio of vacancies to potential applicants for employees, the employment agencies expect a drop in the number of unemployed persons, despite increasing labor market penetration of fugitives.

For the IAB Labor Market Barometer, the IAB surveys all local employment agencies on a monthly basis regarding their expectations and the number of unemployed in the coming three months as well as the development of employment. The scale of the indicator ranges from 90 points for very bad outlook up to 110 for very good development.
