Germany – Hiring up in June

30 June 2017

German companies hired more new employees in June, compared to May, according to figures from the Institute for Economic Research (Ifo Institute).

The Ifo employment barometer increased to 110.9 in June, up from 110.8 in May. The sectors that were hiring new staff were mainly within construction, wholesale, retail and services. Manufacturing was the only sector that saw a fall in hiring.

For the employment barometer, the Ifo Institute surveys approximately 9,500 companies in the manufacturing sector, the construction industry, the wholesale and retail trade as well as the service sector about their work plans for the next three months.

Meanwhile, figures from Germany's Federal Labour Agency showed that the unemployment rate remained unchanged at a record low 5.7% in June.
