Germany – BMW and Daimler get OK for ‘mobility’ joint venture that includes human cloud

20 December 2018

Automakers BMW Group and Daimler AG reported they have received approval from US competition authorities for their mobility joint venture that will bring together the companies’ human cloud and other offerings that include car sharing, parking and electric vehicle charging.

Both companies each have their own “mobility” offerings, but regulators’ approval will allow them to merge those offerings. The deal to create the merged mobility company, to be jointly owned by BMW and Daimler, is set to close by 31 January 2019.

Human cloud, ride-sharing services to be included in the new firm are mytaxi, Chauffeur Privé and Clever Taxi in Europe and Beat in South America. Daimler reported the companies have a combined 15.9 million customers and approximately 250,000 drivers.

Other parts of the joint venture include car sharing firms Car2Go and DriveNow; parking services ParkNow and Parkmobile Group; electric vehicle charging businesses ChargeNow and Digital Charging Solutions; and on-demand mobility businesses moovel and ReachNow.
