Germany – Average number of working hours increases for full-time and part-time workers

In a study by the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) of part time and full time work hours comparisons in the last 20 years, full-time employees worked an average of 40.5 hours per week in 2016, half an hour more than 20 years ago, while the average was 19.3 hours per week for part-time employees, an increase from 17.7 hours per week in 1996.

Meanwhile, self-employed full-time workers averaged 48.9 hours per week in 2016, six hours lower than in 1996. Part-time self-employed workers worked 16.4 hours on average, higher than 15.8 hours in 1996.
