France – Temporary market recovers to pre-recession levels

Temporary employment in France grew by 8.5% in June compared to last year, according to data from Prism’Emploi, the French association of employment agencies.

Employment increased in all temporary sectors with transport leading the way at 19.6%, followed by industry (9.0%), trade (5.9%), services (4.3 %) and construction (3.3%). Prism’Emploi added that as of mid-2017, temporary employment has now managed to erase the effects of the 2008-2009 economic crisis.

Temporary employment saw strong growth among unskilled workers which saw an increase of 10.4% compared to last year. Managers and intermediate occupations saw an increase of 9.9%). Meanwhile, the number of employees (+4.3%) and skilled workers (+7.3%) also grew but were below average growth.

Among the regions, the Brittany region saw an increase of 17.7%, the highest for June, this was followed by Burgundy-Franche-Comté (+ 15.0%) and Center-Val-de-Loire (+ 14.6%). 

Prism’Emploi also reported temporary employment figures for the first half of the year. Monthly changes in the first half of the year ranged from 6.3% to 8.7% with the high figure reported in February. Among the sectors, growth in temporary employment for the first half was the most significant in the transport segment (15.1%).
