France – Temporary employment declines in October

The number of temporary workers in France fell by 4.6% in October 2018 when compared to last year, according to the Barometer report by Prism’Emploi, the French association of employment agencies.

The 4.6% decrease was also a slowdown from the previous month’s 1.7% decrease.

The construction sector reported growth of 3.9% during the period, which was followed by services (3.5%). However, the industrial sector saw a decline of 9.6% while the transport and logistics sector reported a decrease of 5.7% in October. Meanwhile the trade sector reported a 0.9% decrease.

Among occupational categories, the number of temporary staff increased among managers and intermediate professions (0.9%). However, it declined among employees (-2.8%), as well as skilled workers (-3.5%) and unskilled workers (-8.0%).

In October 2018, all regions reported a decrease in the number of temporary staff with the exception of the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region, which recorded a 1.0% increase compared to October 2017.
