France – Q1 temporary employment rises by 8% year over year

Temporary employment in France rose by 8.2% year over year in the first quarter, adding 56,800 jobs to a total of 745,900, according to a report this week from the French National Institute of Statistics and Economic Studies *

The year-over-year increase in temporary employment was strong, according to Insee. The quarter-over-quarter increase was 0.3%, representing 2,600 jobs. The agency reported the quarterly increase was moderate compared to that of the fourth quarter when temporary jobs rose by 14,700 over the previous month.

Overall, total private employment in France rose 1.4% year over year, or by 270,200 jobs to 19.3 million.

In a separate report released earlier this month, Prism’Emploi, the French association of employment agencies, reported the number of temporary workers in France rose by 10.4% year over year in March 2018.
