France – Number of temporary workers up 8.2% in March

At the end of March 2018, the number of temporary workers increased by 8.2% when compared to the same period last year according to data from Pôle Emploi.

Seasonally adjusted data found that there were 815,500 temporary workers at the end of March, an increase of 62,200 from last year.

Among sectors, the tertiary sector reported the biggest increase over the year in March with 8.8%. This was followed by the Industrial sector (8.7%), Construction (6.4%) and Agricultural (3.6%).

The Bourgogne Franche-Comté region led regions with the biggest year-on-year growth in temporary workers at 15.2% in March. This was followed by Pays de la Loire at 13.8%.

Meanwhile, during the same period, the number of unskilled workers increased by 10.2% while employees increased by 7.9% and skilled workers saw an increase of 7.6%.  Managers and intermediate professions reported a year-on-year increase of 5.6%.
