France – Number of temporary contracts grows in November

The number of temporary contracts in France increased by 8.1% in December 2015 compared to the previous year and increased by 3.4% compared to November 2015, according to figures from French job centre, Pôle Emploi.

In December 2015, the number temporary workers increased the most within the construction sector at 5.4%, followed by industrial (4.5%) and services (1.1%), compared to the previous year.

Within the industrial sector, temporary workers increased the most in the manufacture of transport equipment with a 6.9% increase. While in the service sector, the number of temporary workers increased by 2.6%

All professional categories saw growth in temporary workers for December 2015 compared to December 2014 with a 12.3% increase for middle management and professions, 9.7% for skilled workers, 8.9% for employees and 8.5% for unskilled workers.

Temporary workers increased more for men (10.0%) than for women (7.9%) in December 2015 compared to December 2014.

Temporary employment grew in 11 regions in December 2015 compared to the previous month with the Alsace-Champagne-Ardenne-Lorraine region recording the largest increase (+7.1%). 

Compared to the same period in the previous year, temporary employment grew in all regions with the largest increase seen in Loire (15.5%).
