France – Deliveroo riders stage protest over pay (RFI France)

30 August 2017

French riders working for food courier Deliveroo are on strike in Paris over changes to their pay, reports RFI France. More than a hundred couriers who deliver in Paris as well as Bordeaux, Nantes and Lyon demonstrated against Deliveroo’s pay system change which now pays per delivery rather than an hourly rate. Protesters have complained that the change means a loss of pay for them. The leaders of the Deliveroo protests are demanding €7.50 per delivery and a guaranteed minimum of two deliveries per hour. In the UK, the company has faced legal action over its decision pay its riders as independent contractors rather than employees.
