Flexible hiring models set for continued growth across the UK amid economic challenges: ManpowerGroup UK

22 December 2023

Employers in London and others part of the UK are increasingly offering temporary and gig-work contracts rather than committing to permanent hires, amid economic challenges, according to the latest ManpowerGroup UK Employment Outlook Survey.

Looking ahead to 2024, employers are increasingly turning to flexible hiring models to manage costs and attract talent amid economic concerns, according to Petra Tagg, UK operations director, on-site solutions/strategic partnerships.

The flexible roles include temporary and gig work as well as part-time roles, which allows employers to tap into the wider jobs and skills market, Tagg said.

SIA interviewed Tagg on the latest UK ManpowerGroup Employment Outlook Survey which called on employers to focus on skills and potential as opposed to traditional hiring practices based on job titles and formal qualifications.

The interview is based on ManpowerGroup UK’s latest Employment Outlook Survey for Q1 2024.

The survey showed employer hiring intent across the UK for Q1 remains steady at +27%.

The interview is the second part of SIA’s interview with ManpowerGroup UK. The first part of the interview can be found here and the second part can be found here.
