Europe – Nearly half of employees feel they do not have enough influence at work, study finds

14 May 2018

Nearly half, or 43% of European employees feel that they do not have sufficient influence in the company where they work, according to survey data from Belgian HR service provider SD Worx.

The research also showed that the other 57% of surveyed employees across Europe do feel they have influence in their workplace.

Broken down, the data from the UK matched the same European average of 43% of employees feel that they do not have enough influence at work. Meanwhile, the figures for Netherlands (31%) and Luxembourg (38%) were the lowest percentage among those who feel they do not have enough influence in the workplace.

Data is broken down below:

SD Worx’s survey data also found that the size of the organisation also determines the strength of the relationship between the employer and its employees. The larger the organisation, the greater the disparity between both parties. While 68% of employees in companies with up to one hundred employees still feel involved, this percentage goes down to 62% in organisations with more than five hundred employees.

Jean-Luc Barbier, Vice-President SD Worx Global Solutions, commented, "While personalisation in the relationship between employer and employee is increasing, and employees are more and more in control of their own career, it turns out that the influence they have in the companies they work for remains very limited.”
