Eastern Europe — Russian IT brain drain is over says expert

03 September 2010

Since Soviet times, an estimated 80,000 top Russian professionals and scientists have emigrated abroad in favour of higher income and a better standard of living in other countries, Russian news agency Ria Novosti reports.

However, the situation in the IT sphere is now likely to change dramatically.

Tatyana Dolyakova, Head of Executive Search and Recruitment firm Penny Lane Personnel told Ria Novosti "Russia now has a variety of good jobs for IT specialists. Many leading IT companies, including Oracle and Microsoft, have opened branches in Russia over the last 10 years."

"The standard of living for IT specialists in Russia is now comparable to that in Europe and the United States. In 2010, salaries in the IT sphere were among the highest in Russia, along with the banking sector."
