Wipro revenue up 19%

Wipro Ltd. (NYSE: WIT), an information technology service provider, reported revenue from continuing operations rose 19 percent year over year to 109.92 billion Indian rupees (US$1.76 billion) in its second quarter ended Sept. 30.

Net income from continuing operations rose 28 percent to 19.32 billion Indian rupees (US$309 million).

IT services revenue rose 20 percent to 100.68 billion rupees (US$1.61 million). The IT services segment had 147,216 employees at the end of the quarter, and added 45 new customers for the quarter.

Revenue growth was broad-based and across all industry verticals.

“There are positive indicators on the global economy,” said Chairman Azim Premji. “Client confidence is on the uptick and we see it reflected in our results.” 

The company in June announced plans to triple its German workforce by hiring more than 1,000 professionals over the next three years.
