Temporary help services jobs in the U.S. rose by 9,500 in June, according to data released Friday by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. However, the number of temp jobs in May was revised down by 7,600, and the year-over-year growth rate ticked down to 6.66 percent in June from 7.15 percent in May — the first decline in the year-over-year growth rate since February.

Temp jobs totaled 2.68 million in June, up 167,400 from the same month last year.

The temporary penetration rate was unchanged in June at 1.97 percent from May. The temporary penetration rate measures temp employment as a percentage of total U.S. jobs.

Total employment — across all industries — rose by 195,000 jobs for total employment of 135.90 million. June unemployment rate of 7.6 percent was unchanged from May. However, college level unemployment ticked up to 3.9 percent in June from 3.8 percent in May. College-level unemployment can serve as a proxy for professional employment.

Other industries adding notable numbers of jobs in June included leisure and hospitality, up 75,000; retail trade, up 37,000; and healthcare, up 20,000.
