Survey: U.S. workers want to stay put

March 16, 2010

Eight out of 10 U.S. workers want to settle into a job with half saying they want to work for a single company for their entire career. This was among the findings in the 2010 Global Workforce Study by Towers Watson, a human capital consulting firm.

Fifty-one percent of U.S. workers said there was no career advancement in their current roles, and 43% said they believed they must leave their organization and join another in order to advance to a higher level, according to the study. However, 81% said they are not looking for other positions.

"The recession has clearly prompted many employees to rethink their priorities and focus on a longer-term commitment to their employer in return for some semblance of job security," said Laura Sejen, a leader of the Towers Watson's Talent & Rewards business.
