A majority of respondents, 77 percent, say flip-flops look unprofessional in the workplace, according to an online survey by Monster. Only 11 percent said flip-flops are acceptable attire in the workplace.

The poll included 10,723 responses.

“In just about every industry, work environments are becoming more casual, so it can be hard for people to know what’s appropriate,” said Monster career expert Charles Purdy said. “And in summer months, staying cool becomes a priority. But in any job, you should dress with an eye toward your future career.”
