Survey -- Diversity in workplace is critical to success

June 27, 2008

According to the latest Adecco USA Workplace Insights survey, most workers are of the opinion that companies are just providing lip service when it comes to diversity programs.

Seventy-eight percent of the workers surveyed said they feel companies are not "walking the walk" when it comes to diversity programs. Only 34% of workers believe that corporate America has achieved total workforce diversity.

Additional findings show that almost half of employees (47%) have felt discriminated against at the office, with age cited (52%) as the top form of workplace discrimination. Age discrimination was followed by gender (43%), race (32%), religion (9%) and disability (7%).

The survey found that workers think a diverse workforce helps make their organization be more successful. About 53% of respondents felt that the more diverse their company, the more productive a worker they'd become.
