Summer Jobs: 21% of Employers Hiring

May 18, 2011

Twenty-one percent of employers said they plan to hire seasonal workers this summer, about the same percentage as last year, according to a survey released today by CareerBuilder.com. And 57 percent of those employers who are hiring will consider converting some of those positions to permanent status.

More than half (58 percent) of employers reported they will pay $10 or more for their summer positions. Thirty-one percent will pay between $8 to $10 while eight percent of employers will pay $20 or more.

The top jobs open for the summer are office support, customer service, information technology, engineering, research, landscape maintenance, sales and telemarketing, construction/painting, and camp counseling.

More than 2,800 hiring managers participated in the nationwide study, which was conducted in April and March.
