Statistics Canada issues corrected job numbers; raises gain to 41,700 from 200

Canada added 41,700 jobs in July, a large increase from the initially reported number of 200, according to corrected job numbers released today by Statistics Canada. The source of the error has been corrected.

“Statistics Canada takes this matter very seriously and is immediately launching a review of the data verification processes in place,” it reported on its website. “This does not affect other statistical programs. A report on the results of the review will be published on the Statistics Canada website as soon as it is available.”

The number of full-time jobs fell by 18,100, but the number of part-time jobs rose by 59,900, according to Statistics Canada

The Canadian unemployment rate edged down to 7.0 percent in July from 7.1 percent in June.
