Staffing Price Index Up Slightly Over Year

November 14, 2012

The U.S. producer price index for employment services reached a reading of 126.6 in October, up 0.8 percent from its reading of 125.6 in October 2011, according to preliminary data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics that was not seasonally adjusted.

However, the year-over-year growth rate of 0.8 percent in October was down from the year-over-year growth rate of 1.1 percent in September.

Producer price indexes tracks the change in price received by service producers over time. The change in price is measured from the perspective of the seller, in this case staffing firms.

The employment services industry includes employment placement agencies, temporary help services, executive search services and professional employer organizations. Employment services is just one industry tracked by the producer price indexes.
