Southern California area posts highest jobless rate

The Riverside-San Bernardino-Ontario area in Southern California posted the highest unemployment rates in September, 8.2 percent, among all large metropolitan areas with populations of 1 million or more, the US Bureau of Labor Statistics reported today.

The lowest jobless rate among large metropolitan areas in September was found in the Minneapolis-St. Paul/ Bloomington, Wis., area at 3.6 percent.

Among metropolitan areas of all sizes, Yuma, Ariz., posted the highest jobless rate in September at 25.9 percent, followed by El Centro, Calif., at 23.9 percent. Bismarck, N.D., posted the lowest jobless rate among metropolitan areas of all sizes at 2.1 percent.
