Riverside and Detroit post highest jobless rates

The Riverside-San Bernardino-Ontario area in Southern California and the Detroit area posted the highest jobless rates in November among metropolitan areas with populations of 1 million or more, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported today. The Riverside and Detroit areas reported jobless rates of 9.5% each.

Recording the lowest jobless rates among large metropolitan areas in November were the Oklahoma City and Washington DC metropolitan areas at 4.4% each.

El Centro CA registered the highest unemployment for metropolitan areas of all sizes in November at 23.4%. The Logan UT area had the lowest at 2.4%.

Overall, 364 of the 369 metropolitan areas in the U.S. reported higher jobless rates in November than a year earlier. Four reported lower rates, and the rate in one was unchanged.
