Randstad index finds US employee confidence at six-month high

April 03, 2014

The outlook among American workers rose in March to a six-month high, according to Randstad’s U.S. employee confidence index. The index rose 3.1 points in March to a reading of 57.1. The index measures workers’ confidence in their personal employment situation and optimism about the economic environment.

“In concert with rising employee confidence, we see the workplace tilting toward a candidates’ market,” said Michelle Prince, senior vice president of talent management, Randstad North America. “This candidate-centric dynamic is reflected both in our index figures and broader economic indicators, and candidates rightly feel confident that 2014 holds professional promise.”

Workers reported the highest level of job security since May 2008, with 77 percent indicating it is not likely they will lose their jobs. Thirty-three percent reported they are likely to look for a new job, down from 36 percent in February.

The index is based on a survey of 1,120 employed U.S. adults conducted between March 3 and March 5.
