Only one state posts notable dip in jobless rate

Massachusetts was the only state in March to record a significant over-the-month decrease in its unemployment rate, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported today. Massachusetts' jobless rate fell 0.2 percentage points to 9.3%.

Massachusetts' dip was the largest among states, but the District of Columbia's rate fell 0.3 percentage points to 11.6% in March.

North Dakota remained the state with the lowest jobless rate in March at 4.0%. It was followed by South Dakota at 4.8% and Nebraska at 5.0%.

Michigan registered the highest unemployment rate among states in March at 14.1%. Nevada came next as 13.4%, followed by California and Rhode Island at 12.6% each.
