Oklahoma City posts lowest jobless rate

Oklahoma City posted the lowest jobless rate in January, 6.7%, among all U.S. metropolitan areas with populations of 1 million or more, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported today. The Washington DC area posted the second-lowest at 6.9%.

The Detroit area registered the highest unemployment rate among large metropolitan areas in January at 15.6%. The Riverside-San Bernardino-Ontario area in Southern California had the next highest at 15.0%.

Among metropolitan areas of all sizes, the Fargo ND area reported the lowest jobless rate in January at 4.8%. Three areas in California posted the highest unemployment rates, El Centro CA, 27.3%; Merced CA, 21.7%; and Yuba City CA, 20.8%.
