Non-manufacturing activity decelerates in October but employment up

Economic activity in the US non-manufacturing sector grew in October but at a slower rate than September, according to the Institute for Supply Management’s non-manufacturing index released today.

ISM’s non-manufacturing index fell in October to a reading of 57.1 from September’s reading of 58.6. Readings above 50 indicate growth.

The employment portion of the index rose to a reading of 59.6 in October from September’s reading of 58.5 percent.
