Netherlands – Staffing industry achieves sustained growth for a year

29 October 2014

The number of hours worked by temporary workers and staffing industry sales have both increased every period for the past 13 four-week periods, compared with last year, according to the latest figures from ABU, the Dutch Federation of Employment Agencies.

The number of hours worked by temporary workers in the Netherlands increased by +10% during period 10 (15 September – 12 October), compared with the same period last year. This follows growth of +8% in the number of hours worked during period nine and +9% in period eight.

Sales during period 10 rose by +9%, when compared with the same four-week period in 2013, following sales growth of +7% in period nine and +8% in period eight.

  • The number of hours worked in the administrative sector during period 10 increased by +9%, with sales also rising by +9%.
  • The industrial sector reported growth of +8% in the number of hours worked by temporary workers during period 10, while sales increased by +7% compared with last year.
  • The number of hours worked in the technical sector increased strongly by +19%, compared with last year, with sales growing by +15%, year-on-year. This marks the third consecutive period in which the technical sector reported double-digit growth in both the number of hours worked and sales compared with the same period the previous year.

Every four weeks ABU members deliver their sales and working hours figures to TNS-NIPO. This is called the ABU-Marktmonitor. The monitor represents more than 60% of the total staffing industry in the Netherlands.
