Life sciences industry salaries up 8%

Reported salaries in the biopharma and life sciences industry increased 8 percent on average from 2010 to 2012, according to a new report from BioSpace, an online news and careers website for life science professionals.

Professionals working within certain regions often earn more than the overall nationwide averages for their job titles.

  • Overall, professionals working in the San Francisco Bay Area — which includes the cities of Berkeley, Hayward, Mountain View, San Francisco, San Jose and Sunnyvale — had the highest average salary at $76,763.
  • Professionals in the Boston and Cambridge, Mass., areas had an average salary of $72,792.
  • Professionals working in Philadelphia and Princeton, N.J., earned an average of $70,193.
  • Professionals working in Southern California areas such as Irvine, Los Angeles and San Diego earned an average of $67,973.

The BioSpace Life Sciences Salary Report analyzed the BioSpace candidate pool data in the three years between 2010-2012, examining more than 200,000 life sciences professionals at every level with a focus on analysts, engineers, research associates and scientists.
