January 28, 2015

A founder and name partner of legal search firm Major, Lindsey & Africa, Martha Fay “Marty” Africa, died Jan. 22 after a protracted battle with cancer. Africa served as an active member of the firm, the ninth-largest US legal staffing firm, until shortly before her death. The firm is part of the Allegis Group.

Africa joined Bob Major in 1984 to form the core of the firm. She previously was director of law placement at the University of California, Boalt Halt Hall School of Law.

“Marty conducted searches at all levels, from general counsel to executive director for major corporations, not-for-profit organizations, and educational institutions,” the company stated. “Her unique style, warmth and insight made her one of the most beloved and sought after figures in the legal search profession, and hundreds of individuals trace the roots of their successful careers to Marty’s guidance.”
