Jobless claims rise by 2,000

U.S. initial claims for unemployment insurance rose by 2,000, or 0.4%, to 484,000 in the week ended Aug. 7, according to seasonally adjusted numbers released today by the U.S. Department of Labor.

The four-week moving average of claims for the week ended Aug. 7 rose by 14,250, or 3.1%, to 473,500 from the previous week's revised average of 459,250.

Jobless claims for the previous week, ended July 31, were revised up by 3,000 to 482,000. That week jobless claims rose by 22,000.
