Jobless claims fall by 26,000

The number of U.S. initial claims for unemployment insurance fell by 26,000, or 4.5%, to 550,000 in the week ended Sept. 5 from the previous week's revised number of 576,000, the U.S. Department of Labor reported today.

The four-week moving average of claims fell 0.5%, or 2,750, to 570,000 from the previous week's revised average of 572,750.
