Jobless claims fall by 11,000

The number of U.S. initial claims for unemployment insurance filed in the week ended Oct. 2 fell by 11,000 compared with the previous week, according to seasonally adjusted numbers released today by the U.S. Department of Labor.

Initial claims for the week ended Oct. 2 totaled 445,000, down 2.4% from the previous week's number of 456,000 -- which had been revised up by 3,000.

The four-week moving average of claims for the week ended Oct. 2 fell to 455,750, down 3,000, or 7.0%, from the previous week's revised average of 458,750.
