Jobless claims edge down 0.7%

U.S. initial claims for unemployment insurance filed in the week ended Sept. 11 fell by 0.7% compared with the previous week, according to seasonally adjusted numbers released today by the U.S. Department of Labor.

Total initial claims for the week ended Sept. 11 totaled 450,000, down 3,000 from the previous week's revised number of 453,000 -- which had been revised up by 2,000.

The four-week moving average of claims for the week ended Sept. 11 fell by 13,500, or 2.8%, from the previous week's revised average of 478,250.
