Jobless Claims Average Rises by 3,750

The four-week moving average of initial unemployment claims rose to 374,500 in the week ended May 26, an increase of 3,750 from the previous week’s revised average of 370,750, according to seasonally adjusted numbers released today by the U.S. Department of Labor.

The four-week moving average reduces the volatility of the weekly numbers. Total initial claims were 383,000, an increase of 10,000 from the previous week’s revised figure of 373,000.
