Job board reports openings up

U.S. job openings edged up by 0.4 percent in October and year-over-year job openings increased 33.4 percent, according to Simply Hired’s November 2013 Employment Outlook released today. Educators (including librarians) and HR, compliance and business operations roles experienced the largest amounts of growth month-over-month, while healthcare continued to count the most available job openings.

Job openings increased in 11 of 50 major metro areas in October. West Palm Beach, Fla., experienced the largest gains at 3.5 percent. Salt Lake City and Harrisburg, Pa., followed at 3.2 percent and 2.5 percent respectively.

Job openings increased in nine out of 18 industries in October. Nonprofit at 13.7 percent and government at 5.7 percent posted the largest gains, while media reported the largest decrease during the month, falling 7.4 percent.
