The Institute for Supply Management’s purchasing managers index for U.S. manufacturing rose 1.2 percentage points to a reading of 54.9 percent in April. The reading indicates expansion at a faster pace than indicated by March’s reading of 53.7 percent. Readings above 50 indicate growth.
The employment portion of the index rose to a reading of 54.7 percent in April from 51.1 percent in March.
