IRS releases form for HIRE Act tax credit

May 21, 2010

The IRS released Form 941, which employers will need in seeking to claim a payroll tax break under the Hiring Incentives to Restore Employment Act signed by President Obama on March 18. Employers also need the form W-11 released last month.

Employers may qualify for an exemption from the 6.2% employer's share of Social Security tax on wages paid to certain newly hired employees who have been unemployed (or not worked more than 40 hours) for a period of at least 60 days. The employees' 6.2% share of taxes would still be collected.
