Hong Kong - IT jobs market remained strong in H1 2015

02 September 2015

The Hong Kong IT jobs market remained buoyant during the first half of the year, with IT professionals staying in high demand, according to Robert Walters reported by Computerworld Hong Kong.

The recruitment firm's latest Hong Kong Market Update suggests that IT candidates moving jobs might command an average salary increment of 15% to 18%.

Developments in cloud and mobile technologies kept demand for IT specialists in the fields of cloud, IT security and programming high.

Increasing cloud adoption drove demand for mid to senior level pre-sales consultants and solution architects, and companies actively sought candidates with solid design experience in storage, server and networking technologies. But demand for cloud professionals is outstripping supply.

Companies also sought developers and programmers with experience in Java and mobile applications, Robert Walters said. But these positions too were hard to fill as candidates with such experience prefer to move to a business analyst or project management role.

In the contracting market there was strong demand for junior to mid-level IT support candidates, with hiring managers pursuing business analysts  who can leverage IT systems to automate processes  and enhance efficiency.

Contract demand for hybrid roles combining functions such as business analyst and application support also increased.

Robert Walters expects hiring activity to remain high for the rest of the year, with professionals possessing hybrid skill sets to be in particularly high demand.

Matthew Bennett, Managing Director - Greater China, Robert Walters comments:

“Hong Kong remains the preferred gateway to China for many businesses. China’s economic growth, although in relative terms slower than previous years, will continue to benefit the city. We expect the optimistic market sentiment to continue through to the second half of the year.”
