Healthcare reconciliation may raise fee

March 17, 2010

Companies that have more than 50 workers and do not provide health insurance could be required to pay $2,000 per full-time worker per year under the healthcare reform reconciliation bill in the U.S. House of Representatives. The reconciliation bill would raise the amount from the Senate healthcare reform bill which had called for a penalty of $750.

The House is slated to vote on the bill this Sunday. According to the Washington Post, the House will vote on a package including the reconciliation bill and the version of healthcare reform approved by the Senate, "deeming" the Senate bill approved. Obama would then sign the Senate bill into law and the Senate would work to approve the reconciliation bill fixes -- if the Senate makes changes to the reconciliation bill it would go back to the House for another vote, according to the Post.
