Gallup reported the U.S. unemployment rate was 8.2 percent in July, up slightly from 8.0 percent the group estimated it to be in June, but down from 8.8 percent from July 2011, according to numbers that were not adjusted for seasonality.

Results are based on telephone interviews conducted as part of Gallup Daily tracking in July with a random sample of 29,303 adults.
