Court OKs Medical Staffing Network sale

August 25, 2010

The sale of Medical Staffing Network Holdings, the fourth-largest U.S. healthcare staffing firm, to its first-lien creditors was approved by a bankruptcy court.

Judge Erik Kimball of the U.S. Bankruptcy Court signed an order Monday authorizing the sale. First-lien creditors were owed $98.8 million and bid $84.1 million of the amount owed to acquire the company.

Boca Raton FL-based Medical Staffing Network filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection on July 2. The proposed sale to first-lien creditors was announced at that time as well as a plan to solicit any competing bids.

Medical Staffing Network ranked No. 4 on Staffing Industry Analysts' list of largest U.S. healthcare staffing firms. It also ranked as the second-largest provider of per diem nurse staffing, sixth-largest provider of travel nurse staffing and tenth-largest provider of allied healthcare staffing.

The company also operates the OneSource vendor management system.

Medical Staffing Network first announced in March that bankruptcy might be a possibility after a default on debt. In May, it announced an escrow account to handle VMS payments, according to a filing with SEC. The company said in April it hired Mohsin Meghji of Loughlin Meghji + Company, to serve as chief restructuring officer.
